I roll out every mornin' I drink my coffee on the run
Workin' for the man just the way my daddy done.
The money I'm makin' ain't buyin' much bacon, so when payday comes along,
sometimes I gotta do something, even if it's wrong.
The telephone keeps ringin', and it gets under my skin
they all call to ask me when I'll send the money in,
so A T and T does a favor for me and takes a message at the tone,
sometimes ya gotta do something even if it's wrong.
Seems the road is gettin' rougher as I roll on up the hill
high times passin' by me just like I was standin' still
but I'm almost to the top, and I'll go until I drop
some fall by the wayside but Ive gone too far to stop.
The woman of my dreams, she was like a livin' doll
I sent her far away when she set me for a fall
cause she was a digger and the bills got bigger, and I was up against a wall,
sometimes ya gotta do something even if it's wrong
Now I hear those wolves a howlin' and I can't get no sleep at all
the good lord knows I'm tired of robbin' Peter to pay Paul'
from the grindstone to the gravestone, is it really worth it all?
Sometimes ya gotta do something even if it's wrong.
Seems the road is getting' rougher as I roll on up the hill
high times passin' by me just like I was standin' still
but I'm almost to the top, and I'll go until I drop
some fall by the wayside, but I've gone too far to stop...

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG...
"Even If It's Wrong" was the last song I wrote while living back in Washington state. I was recording my "demo"to move to Nashville, and as usual, I had the tune and melody recorded before the lyrics were much at all. Actually took me almost a year for the lyrics, as I didn't wanna rush them, because I felt strong about the vibe of the song and the recorded music. This was the original version that I produced with my friend Lin Poulson, who played Lead guitar on this recording, along with 7 other original songs we recorded out in my "shop" back home [That's a photo of the actual shop building in Cougar]. On a 12 track AKAI recorder. The sound quality is not all that great, as I knew nothing then about mastering, etc. and was very limited in my engineering skills (still am), but here it is just plain and simple.
Oh yeah, that's a pre-steel guitar playing, pre-professor of hillbilly music, and temporarily, Northwesterner Donny Herron playing the fiddle. The year was about 1991 or 1992. Some prefer this version.
